Grant Brooker, Executive Director of Foster + Partners and Luis Vidal, Founder of Vidal y Asociados arquitectos, gave a fascinating presentation of their plans for Heathrow East to a packed audience on Wednesday morning.
The new terminal is due to open in two phases, with the first phase replacing existing Terminal 2 and The Queen's Building and the second extending into Terminal 1. The design is based around three distinct processing areas, with large north-facing windows which will flood the building with natural light.
Carbon efficiencies have been a key driver of the design with large windows reducing the need for artificial lighting and solar-gathering panels on the roof further reducing dependency on energy supplies.
