Press release: NLA Chairman appointed as Mayor's Design Advocate

Tuesday 11 July 2017

New London Architecture is pleased to announce that Peter Murray, Chairman of New London Architecture (NLA), has been appointed as one of the Mayor's Design Advocates.

The Design Advocates will help deliver the Mayor's vision of a City for All Londoners, in particular by supporting the development and delivery of the Good Growth by Design programme.

As well as his position as Chairman of NLA - London’s Centre for the Built Environment, Peter Murray is also Chairman of the London Society, a board member of Be First - the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham's delivery vehicle, and was a member of the Mayor's Design Advisory Group in the Johnson administration.

Peter Murray says “I am very pleased to support this programme to help to ensure that good design and placemaking is embedded in new development as London faces a period of unprecedented growth.”

The Mayor’s Design Advocates will be providing invaluable support to the Mayor and his staff through advocacy, critique and research for the Good Growth by Design agenda. The pool of individuals were selected from over 200 applications and represent the highest quality of talent and expertise across a board range of built environment disciplines.

Debbie Whitfield, Deputy Chair of NLA, commented “We are delighted that Peter Murray has been appointed a Mayor’s Design Advocate, recognising the depth of his knowledge and expertise on the central issues facing London’s built environment and NLA’s critical role in helping to shape a better city.”

NLA are also listed as one of five advocate organisations in the Good Growth by Design publication launched yesterday at the LSE public lecture “Good Growth by Design – A Vision for London”.
