Jestico + Whiles

Julian jointly leads the higher education studio at Jestico + Whiles.

His completed buildings include the National Graphene Institute at the University of Manchester (RIBA and BCI award winner), the Aloft hotel at Excel London (NLA award winner) and the Mountbatten Nanotechnology Research Centre at the University of Southampton (RIBA and AIA award winner). Currently he’s working on the new Cavendish Laboratory for the University of Cambridge and the Centre for Advanced Studies in Cuba. Julian is also a visiting tutor at London Metropolitan University.

Universities UK’s most recent figures show that London universities contribute at least £5.8bn a year to the UK economy. Given the importance of this sector, what is the future for higher education estates across London and how are they maximising their space in terms of use, energy efficiency and providing value for money in this highly competitive sector? Are London universities moving towards integration with their surrounding communities?
