Steve has directed design teams to produce award winning schemes in the UK and overseas.

He has delivered numerous prototype housing projects testing new construction techniques such as tunnel forming, volumetric and light gauge steel frame as well as experimental low energy housing.

Steve has been involved in various think tanks on the future of housing including looking at the viability of the American Multi-family Housing in the UK with CBRE as well as urban regeneration and densification in India.

London has not had to address the delivery of high-rise residential development for a generation, while planning has struggled to evolve with this re-emerging typology. At the same time, Londoners’ perception of high-rise, high-density living has not evolved far beyond post-war high-rise development.

London must battle to overcome preconceptions about density that stretch back to slums and overcrowding and look at its sharp population growth as less of a crisis and more of an opportunity to create new housing solutions. That was one of the key pointers to emerge from a NLA breakfast talk last week co-hosted by SOM.
