Marking the launch of The Urban Masterplanning Handbook, by Eric Firley and Katharina Grön, this NLA breakfast talk examined the role of masterplanning in shaping the development of the modern city.
Eric Firley gave an international overview while Ed Jones and Kathryn Firth discussed how masterplanning can be integrated into the complex fabric of London, influenced by multiple land ownerships, layers of historic development, and fast changing market forces. They examined the role of the urban masterplan in shaping parts of the capital over time, and looked at the tensions between the masterplan as designed and the realised scheme.
