NLA are hosting a major development and investment conference at the new technology accelerator Level39 in One Canada Square focusing on the rapidly changing area around Canary Wharf, Isle of Dogs and Whitechapel.
With capacity for a minimum of 10,000 new homes and 110,000 new jobs by 2031, and the arrival of Crossrail in 2019, key stakeholders Canary Wharf Group, GLA, LB Tower Hamlets, together with Maccreanor Lavington and Herzog & de Meuron, will discuss the major development opportunities around the significant level of growth taking place.
Following a networking lunch, delegates can enjoy afternoon tours of key areas of change, detailed below.

Tour A: Canary Wharf and Wood Wharf
Led by Oliver Rifkind, Assistant Development Manager, and Dale Pile, Community Liaison Officer from host Canary Wharf Group. Delegates will explore the estate strategy for Canary Wharf and Wood Wharf and learn about future development plans for the Group. Starting off with a bird’s eye view of the estate, Howard Dawber, Strategic Adviser to Canary Wharf, will talk the group through future developments before delegates are led round the estate on foot to discuss on the ground the major plans for this new piece of London.
Tour B: Blackwall Reach and Poplar regeneration
Led by LB Tower Hamlets, with contributions from: Tina Khakee, Head of Land and Planning, Swan Housing; Chris Clarke, Project Director, Poplar Harca; and Karsten Weiss, Associate, Pringle Richards Sharatt. This tour will lead delegates on foot from One Canada Square through Poplar Docks to Blackwall Reach regeneration area taking in Robin Hood Gardens estate, Poplar Baths, and Chrisp Street Market to finish with drinks kindly hosted by Poplar HARCA at the innovative new youth centre at the Spotlight in Langdon Park. Sensible footwear is needed.
Tour C: City Fringe: Whitechapel to Bishopsgate Goodsyard
Led by Anna Sinnott, Director of Planning, BDP and representatives from LB Tower Hamlets with contributions from: Sean Buick, Project Architect, Julian Harrap Architects; Graham West, Director, West Architecture; and ING Media. This tour will take delegates from Shadwell DLR through Watney Market towards the Whitechapel Vision masterplan area taking in the regeneration of the old Royal London hospital, High Street 2012, new Crossrail station, Brick Lane and Bishopsgate Goodsyard, ending in Shoreditch where ING Media will be hosting refreshments. Please note you will need an Oyster card for this tour.
Tour D: Stepney and the Ocean Estate
Led by LB Tower Hamlets and with contributions from Glyn Tully, Head of Landscape and Urban Design Group and Chris Manning, Senior Architect, Levitt Bernstein, this tour will give delegates an overview of the huge level of regeneration which has taken place in Stepney. Starting at Limehouse DLR, delegates will walk through Stepney City Farm towards the key developments of So Stepney and Vivo, discussing these major regeneration schemes in detail on site, before ending at Stepney Green tube station.
