Making a place for culture

Monday 26 October 2015

14:00-18:00 (Registration from 13:30)

Chamber at City Hall, The Queen's Walk, London SE1 2AA

New London Architecture and the Mayor of London hosted a special half day seminar examining the role of culture as a tool for placemaking.

Sir Edward Lister, Deputy Mayor of Planning and  Munira Mirza, Deputy Mayor of Culture  was joined by local authorities, developers and cultural organisations to examine the role culture has to play in placemaking, how cultural venues are being protected and delivered across London, and examine the planning tools which are available to those delivering culture and new opportunities for culture to grow.

The event marked the launch of the Cultural Planning Toolkit, an essential planning guide for placemakers.

London’s culture draws people from around the world, and brings new talent to the city every year. Culture is the epicentre of key regeneration plans, such as the V&A at Olymicopolis, the English National Ballet at London City Island, the Cultural Hub in the City of London, and at Nine Elms. Yet at the same time we are losing artist studios, music venues, pubs and theatres.

Held in the London Chamber at City Hall, the event provided an opportunity to meet with local authorities, developers and cultural organisations.
