New London Walking Tour - Bankside

Saturday 4 June 2016

14:00-16:00 (Registration at 13:45)

Starting at Southwark Underground station, explore Bankside’s regeneration from Millennium Bridge to Tate Modern, through to the Shard and the More London development to the east.

Our walk will explore recently developed pedestrian-priority areas along Bankside and More London which encourage exciting interactions between the cultural, business and tourist communities of this unique part of London.

New residential by Rogers Stirk Harbour and office accommodation by Allies and Morrison have transformed a neglected backwater into London’s most dynamic work/live hub. The train lines still criss-cross overhead but the perception of this once undesirable Dickensian backwater is changing with the development of Herzog and de Meuron's angular brick extension to Tate Modern.

This walk meets at Southwark tube station, just past the ticket barriers and finishes near London Bridge station.

London Festival of Architecture

To celebrate the London Festival of Architecture, NLA has commissioned a special series of New London Walking Tours, happening every Saturday for the month of June. Our walks will explore interventions being implemented across the capital to enhance, enrich and encourage interaction, engagement and community growth in areas of huge development. As well as tracking the wider development of these areas, our walks will visit a number of carefully designed schemes where outdoor public space is given extra attention to create attractive and comfortable places for communities to grow.
